P-4 Goes to St. Johns and SOB hill

About this event

Head out on this 12.8-mile out-and-back trail near Dillon, Colorado. Generally considered a challenging route, it takes an average of 7 h 22 min to complete. This is a popular trail for hiking, off-road driving, and snowshoeing, but you can still enjoy some solitude during quieter times of day. The best times to visit this trail are March through October. Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash.

Saints John Trail (also called Saints John Road) takes OHV users from the town of Montezuma all the way out to the old mining town of Saints John, where silver was mined during the mid to late 1800's. This trail is most often driven or biked, but hikers sometimes use it as well, so please be sure to be respectful and watch out for others.

SOB Hill is a dirt and rock road only passable by modified high clearance 4x4 vehicles and other OHVs. The first mile of the trail is a series of different obstacles leading up to a large and steep rock climb over the SOB part of this trail. There is one obstacle bypass at Waypoint 5, but all the vehicle requirements in the Concerns section will be needed before the bypass. From Waypoint 6 to the trail's end, it is a fairly easy drive with narrow tracks and frequent off-camber areas. SOB Hill typically runs uphill since passing can be difficult, and uphill has the right of way on Forest Service roads.

We will meet 39°36'33.6"N 105°56'32.6"W northeast corner of Gondla Road and Montezuma road in the large parking lot. We can airdown there and drive to the trail about 4 miles away. Plan on meeting up at 8:30 and depart at 9 if you run both trails figure on about 6 hours total. If you dont want to run SOB hill you can take St Johns back to Montezuma.

Be sure to bring lunch, water, sunscreen & the GRMS.
